Towards the middle of the Fantastic album track recording sessions in Maison Rouge Studio 1, George Michael wanted to write some new material and he also wanted to be left alone to experiment with vocal ideas, so the Wham! Boys also took over Studio 2.
I set it up with Steve Brown and Tony Taverner so that George could use Studio 2 as a writing room and to record vocals. Meanwhile, Steve carried on with some mixing and overdubs in Studio 1.
During this time it was just George and I in Studio 2. I'd change 2-inch tape reels, make sure mics were set up, patch outboard equipment into the main console, make sure it all got cleanly to tape, and then leave George and the tape auto-locator to it for an hour or so, and then come and check he was doing ok, or he'd come to find me if he needed anything.
