Welcome to The Flip Side Podcast β Whatβs Going On? #001
The Flip Side is a section within my main substack infotainment channel (The Songβs the Thing!) where I post interviews and commentary about anything and everything that I find interesting (usually totally unrelated to music in any way, and typically free). The Whistle Test is the section where I post about anything and everything regarding songwriting, songwriters, songs, music, recording, performing, gear, guitars, and more. There are also several other sections, for example, Free Speech Absolutism and Reel-to-Real.
Todayβs episode is a catchup with Louis Hanshawβ¦
About himself as a musician, and about whatβs going on with Artificial Intelligence? (Recorded on 5th June 2023.)
The video version of todayβs episode will also appear on Spotify very soon. For now, hereβs a link to it on YouTube.
We, Louis and I, plan to do this 'What's going on?' catchup on a regular basis, maybe once every six-to-eight weeks β that's the plan...
More or less, this first 'What's going on?' is in two halves.
The first hour or so is Louis introducing himself as a musician.
Here's a link to βBlessed Beβ, one of Louisβs recent songs on YouTube.
The second hour is Louis and I talking mainly, but not only, about whatβs going on with AI, in particular AI relating to music creation. This βStatement on AI Riskβ gets mentioned in the podcast.
Louis is a multi-instrumental singer-songwriter, beginning at the tender age of 13 when lifeβs difficulties first made a huge impact. He now produces his music in his home studio in Spain and on the road. After focusing on family and business for a few years he had an epiphany that it was time to follow the long-standing dream of bringing his music and messages to the world.
Some of his songs which are very relevant to the last few years include βThe Best is Yet to Comeβ and βBreathe (Give Me a Smile)β which both shine a light on the geopolitical happenings in recent times.
He is a totally independent artist who is looking for new ways to be involved with what he considers to be a broken industry in many ways.
