BTW the name βThe Shriekβ was inspired by the painting βThe Screamβ by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. βScreamβ in Norwegian is βSkrikβ. Sounds like βScreechβ but we preferred βShriekβ π€·ββοΈ

Love the name.....The Shriek. If I was your manager at the time, I'd have suggested spelling it, The Shreek. It's eye-catching, avoids the press transposing the "i" and the "e" (oh, it would've happened!), plus you've got an "eeeeee" in the word, like there should be in an audible shriek! In fact, had a logo ensued, the two "e"s could be stylized to look like frightened eyes! Shoulda found me....I was in L.A. at the time!!! You and me....we coulda gone far!ππAnd, I wouldn't have worn a cardigan over a tie!
I liked the song...seemed very of-the-decade! Amazing stories, Nic! If others are like me ('cause I know I'm doing it as I read), we're sizing up our early lives/careers, and comparing your initiative, drive, and confidence with ours in our early 20s (if not late teens)!
Yep, itβs that life conundrumβ¦ if only I knew then what I know now Vs if only now I had 10% of the get up and go I had at twenty! Anyway, I donβt tend to do βif onlysβ. Generally Iβm ok with my decisions, and life is still very full-on and vibrant today, just in a very different way. I guess, realistically, for us both, itβs gonna have to be next life for youthful Cardigan-free exploits together in some venture or anotherβ¦ looking forward to it, Brad, but not just yet! I got a few more things to achieve in this life first! π

But I bet you wished you got on the cardigan bandwagon much sooner!
You paint a very humorous picture of these corporate sound engineers, operators and trainees. And the irony that they're involved in generating creative outputs but are so slow and procedure-bound is quite striking.
Somewhere Iβve seen a photo of EMI London audio technicians from the late 50s/early 60s, I think they called themselves βrecordistsβ, wearing full-length white lab technician style jacketsπ₯Όβ¦ there are more CBS circa 1982 stories coming soonβ¦ and yep, maybe I should have got a pipe, a tobacco tin, some pipe cleaners, maybe a snuffbox and an engraved pewter tankard, and a pen organiser for my breast pocketβ¦ the whole Shebang π

It's funny, but it reminds me of the IBM-ers in the town where I grew up, who always wore white shirts with ties, pocket protectors, had the same nerdy glasses, etc. Bit of a cult, when you think about it.
And, as ever, Brad, thank you for your support and encouragement, and comments. Iβm glad youβre enjoying these storiesβ¦ thereβs more on the wayβ¦

The Scream is what I immediately thought of, so mission accomplished.
Btw, I quite like "I Remember" - really great beginning and it's got a house music trance vibe.
Yep, The Shriek, on the forefront of TranceHouse, we were ahead of the times π
