Great story and wonderful homage to Haz, Nic. The George Michael anecdote was so funny, and the Haydn story very interesting.

In what is extraordinary synchronicity, I've been thinking I must research the music industry back in that era and how they managed to cheat so many of the artists I've been profiling. And here's your story of Haz getting cheated and your mention of Simon Garfield's book, which I have just ordered. I am grateful for that.

Let me just say that I love Walking with the King and Wicked Man. Brilliant tunes, so 80s which I love. Who cares what the lyrics are? Most of us don't listen to the lyrics that closely anyway. I think people would have loved them.

Also enjoyed seeing you guys as backup singers!

Thank you, Ellen, that means a lot, those songs have just been sat gathering dust for years...

About the book, it's so long since I read it, I hope it's useful. In parts 2 and 3 I'll say more about Hazel and her legal debacles within the industry... it has to be said that I'll just be offering an opinion, I think the situation was so complex that it is now actually almost impossible to successfully unravel and separate fact from fiction.

Anyway, I think as a result of Hazel's legal case and the cumulative effect of many many other similar legal cases the industry, at least for a moment, at the beginning of the noughties, became much more regulated and a bit of a safer place for recording artists generally... not sure if that still contiues today, I'm a bit too far removed from it all now.

I'll look forward to those posts. I wonder if you can do something with those songs!

I'm not so concerned about understanding the industry since the late 90s and early noughties. I think I'm more interested in understanding what happened back then and why so many artists fell by the wayside, affecting what we got and didn't get to hear, who got rich off the artists (where did all that money go?), and the implications of that for culture and society. I do have some theories but sources from that era like the Garfield book could be very helpful. If it is, I'll buy you a pint!

One UK lawyer from the 70s/80s, kinda one of the good guys, not a blood sucking scumbag, was Alexis Grower, he died last year. From what I know he kind of championed quite a few recording artists through legal battles with the industry establishment. I think he was mentioned in quite some detail in various books and articles about music industry legal battles, just not sure which πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I think he was really close friends with Lemmy.

Mine's a Guiness!

Thanks for the Alexis Grower info. Will do a search.

Get ready for a Guinness as soon as I get that book!
