Goodness......that's quite a falsetto on Jamie ("All of This Confusion")! Nifty song.....I'm hearing a little Culture Club, as well as a kind of ABC smoothness. Me likey!

Love "Sugar in the Backyard"! (Holy euphemism, Batman)! It sounds so of the time (nothing wrong with that), and it's so well-crafted and produced, more fully-realized than a lot of the actually recorded stuff around today.

Unlike so many indie/DIY current songs (on streaming and/or songwriters here on 'Stack), I can actually detect the choruses, and even a bridge on this! Wait, lemme go see if you modulated! Nope, but that's OK! I dig your tasteful picking, I will add.

If I were producing, I'd love to toy with a break-down just after the 4:00 mark, and just have Jamie rap (over your picking and a quieter keyboard...Jamie's close to rapping already), before bringing the girls back in and maybe modulate with instruments back in for a finish with chorus.

BTW, did any of your Warner-Chappell songs get covered? You can DM me the answer if there's a "yes"! Really well done, Nic!

β€œHoly euphemism, Batman!” lol πŸ˜‚ 😜 40 years ago, in England, well we were sheltered from all the US slang, so innocently for us it had an entire other meaning, something like β€˜beneficial surplus’ something useful set aside for the future…

Several songs from that time got released, and had some very minor commercial success, in territories like Benelux, and Singapore, and Australia. I guess at some stage I’ll write something about this.

These songs I posted in this article, well they are monitor mixes, from a recording session, on metal compact cassettes, eventually (years later) archived onto CDs (and now MP3s). They are not even final mixes. I don’t think they ever reached final mix stage, and the master tapes are gone, I have no idea what happened to them… so they really are just like single snapshots of songs Jamie and I were writing and recording at that time. If I had the 2" multitrack tapes, well, I'd send you the stems so you could do your mix, sounds like a great break-down section you're planning... Seriously though, if I still had those master tapes now, the things I could do with them...

That's funny.....the sayings from both countries, across the proverbial pond! That's such a more wholesome and clever saying ("beneficial surplus"), and sure beats my "potty-mouthed brain's" guess!😱

However mixed those songs were, Nic, they still sounded good, and more to the point, were (to my ears), well-developed and accomplished compositions (light years ahead of a lot of those amateur attempts I mentioned)! If they weren't, my far-from-pro arranging twiddling in my head I wouldn't be motivated to attempt! Plus, it was fun!🎢
